Release Notes:

macOS OS Update Management

We have completely redesigned macOS OS Update Management to provide improved visibility, control, and tracking of update deployments.

  1. New Operations-Based Update Management

    1. Introduced Operations, a new way to manage OS update deployments across devices.

    2. Create update operations by grouping devices and configuring deployment settings such as update protocol (DDM or Legacy), installation deadlines, and Self-Service availability.

    3. Track operation progress with detailed status information, including successful, failed, and in-progress devices.

    4. View detailed device and operation events for improved troubleshooting and auditability.

    5. Export operation and event reports for offline review and compliance needs.

  2. Overview Dashboard

A new dashboard provides a daily snapshot of update activity, including:

    1. Updated, pending, and failed updates, along with overall success rates.

    2. Visibility into newly available and expiring updates.

    3. Insights into active operations, user-initiated updates, and overall update activity.

  3. Enhanced Update, Device, and Events Views

    1. Retained familiar Update and Device views for streamlined operation creation.

    2. Added a dedicated Events view for monitoring OS update activity across devices and groups.

  4. Additional Improvements

    1. Devices can now be associated with only one OS update operation at a time.

    2. Replaced disruptive full-screen update reminders with non-blocking notifications.

    3. Added configurable reminder schedules, including daily, every 3 days, and progressive reminders leading up to the update deadline.

    4. Introduced a guided migration experience to help eligible administrators transition to the new OS update workflow.

    5. Existing update deployments will automatically be represented as Operations for easier tracking after migration.

    6. Self-Service OS updates require macOS Agent version 5.14.8 (585) or later.

Android

  1. Android Agent Update

    1. Released a new Android agent with support for 16 KB memory page sizes, ensuring compatibility with the latest Android platform requirements and improving performance on modern devices.

Note: We recommended validating the new agent on a small set of devices before broad deployment.

  2. Fixes

    1. Resolved an issue affecting USB Debugging restrictions on Samsung devices with Knox support.

Windows MDM Agent

  1. Maintenance Release

    • Fixed an issue where certain OS updates were not being correctly reported on domain-joined devices when managed through the Windows MDM Agent.

General Enhancements

  1. Prevent Broadcast Message Deletion

Administrators can now configure a retention period during which users cannot delete received broadcast messages. This helps ensure that important communications remain accessible on managed devices until they are no longer needed. If this setting is not enabled, users can continue deleting messages as before.
